"Applied Pilates is such a great place. Having tried a few studios, this one stuck. I honestly have never been so committed to an exercise until starting with Teejay. He is calm and knowledgeable and helps support you in getting stronger and more confident. He gives clear advice for people working with injuries which you simply don’t get at any other Pilates studios. Thoroughly recommend!"
Getting here from Watford
Ten miles across the A405, and the parking is free.
It is the A405 North Orbital straight across from Watford — through Bricket Wood and Park Street, then onto the A414 at London Colney, just under ten miles. The motorway version is the M25 from junction 21A to junction 22, with the studio two minutes off the exit. Put AL2 1JG into the sat-nav for a live time. Most Watford clients allow half an hour and still arrive early. Routes and timings from every other town we serve sit on the areas we cover. Also close by: Shenley & Radlett, Hemel Hempstead and London Colney.
The studio is Unit 5, Hertfordshire Business Centre on Alexander Road, with free parking directly outside and no time limit. Ground floor throughout, step-free from the car park to the studio door — which matters more than it sounds if you are arriving in pain.
"A swing exposes what a body cannot do. It does not cause it."
Where the shot actually breaks down
The swing is where it shows. The restriction is somewhere else.
Golf, tennis and padel all ask the same thing of a body: turn away from the target, then turn through it fast with the feet planted. That rotation has to come from somewhere. If the mid-back and the hips are not giving it, the lower back and the shoulder give it instead, because the shot still has to happen.
That substitution is why the pain usually turns up a joint or two away from the restriction. A hip that will not rotate inwards shows up as a sore lower back. A stiff mid-back shows up as a shoulder that aches the day after serving. An elbow that will not settle is worth checking further up the arm before anything more is done to the elbow itself.
Padel adds its own version of the problem. The court is short, the walls keep the ball alive, and the game is full of sudden changes of direction and overhead shots played off balance. Most players come to it in their forties and fifties from another sport or from none, and the volume climbs faster than the body’s tolerance for it does.
None of this is fixed by stretching whatever hurts. It is fixed by restoring the rotation where it should have come from, then loading it until it holds at the speed the game is actually played at.

Ten miles to find out what the shot is covering for.
Watford is not short of Reformer studios, and a class will make you stronger. What a class cannot do is watch you rotate and work out which segment is not contributing, or decide what to load first. That takes an hour of assessment, then a programme built around the sport rather than around the week’s sequence. The drive buys the reading, not the apparatus.
Who travels in from Watford
Club golfers, tennis players from the Watford and Bushey clubs, and a fast-growing number of padel players. They arrive with a lower back that tightens through a round, a shoulder that complains the day after a match, or a hip that no longer turns the way the swing wants it to. Most have managed it with stretching, strapping or a rest week and found it returns the moment the season does.
Clients come from Watford town centre, North Watford, Oxhey, Carpenders Park, Garston, Leavesden, Croxley Green, Bushey and Abbots Langley. Distances from every town we serve are set out on the areas we cover, and neighbouring pages cover Hemel Hempstead, Borehamwood and Shenley & Radlett.
Some come from further along the road: after a course of physio that got them out of pain but not back to full pace, after knee replacement or hip replacement and wanting to play again, or with older back pain or sciatica that quietly decides how much they can commit to. Shoulder and neck pain and hip or knee pain are the two most common reasons a season gets cut short, and where the soft tissue itself is the limit, sports and remedial massage runs alongside.
Pilates classes for Watford: what a session involves
The first hour is the Movement Assessment. For a golf or racket sport it measures rotation where the game needs it: how far the hips turn in and out, how much the mid-back gives before the lower back takes over, what the shoulder does at the top of the swing. The Movement Assessment is £85 (60 minutes, 1-to-1). From there the usual route is the Foundation Programme (£269, three 1-to-1 sessions) and then small-group apparatus classes, capped at seven people, or a 1-to-1 Reformer and apparatus course if closer supervision is wanted. For anyone looking for Pilates classes in Watford, the group sessions here are capped at seven and run by the same practitioner who assessed you.
Because this is a full STOTT Pilates apparatus studio — Reformers, Cadillac / Trapeze Table, Stability Chair, Ladder Barrel, Arc Barrel and Long Box — rather than a Reformer-only room, rotation can be trained in the positions the sport actually uses: split stance, single leg, arms overhead, resisted through the range instead of held at the end of it. Osteolates Therapy takes the soft tissue side when that is what is holding things up. Prices and memberships
Watford questions, answered
Just under ten miles on the A405, or M25 junction 21A to 22 with the studio two minutes off the exit. Parking is free, right outside, with no time limit.
It should not. The work is about getting rotation back from the segments meant to provide it, which is usually where the distance went in the first place. Nothing here asks you to swing softer in order to stay comfortable. The free movement self-check will give you a rough sense of where you are before you book anything.
The Movement Assessment is £85 (60 minutes, 1-to-1). After that: the Foundation Programme is £269 for three 1-to-1 sessions, single 1-to-1 sessions are £95, and a six-session 1-to-1 course is £479 — about £79 a session. Small-group apparatus classes are £32 pay-as-you-go or £299 for a 10-session block, about £30 a session. Memberships start at £129 a month. Full detail is on prices and memberships.
A class teaches one sequence to a room, and the room is not playing your sport. Here the sequence follows an hour spent watching how you rotate, and it is built around what golf, tennis or padel actually demand rather than around a general week. That is what clinical Pilates is for.
Almost always. Stopping is rarely the fix and is not usually necessary — what changes first is how much the body absorbs, not how much you play. If something genuinely has to come down for a few weeks, that gets said at the assessment rather than assumed.
The studio runs Monday to Thursday 7:30am–7:30pm, Friday 7:30am–5:30pm and Saturday 7:30am–1:30pm. Group classes are booked through the timetable; assessments, 1-to-1 sessions and Osteolates Therapy are arranged through the enquiry form or on 07734 578959. Watford players usually take the early slots before a round, or the evening ones after a match.
Reformer Pilates Watford clients are usually in the studio within a week of enquiring. Book your £85 Movement Assessment
