1-to-1 Movement Assessment

The essential first step for every new client. Before a single exercise is prescribed, Teejay needs to understand how your body actually moves.

Why does every client start with an assessment? Generic exercise can worsen pain if it is not right for your body. Clients who have already tried physio, chiro, osteo and the gym often have compensatory movement patterns that standard exercise will make worse. The assessment identifies exactly what is happening, so everything that follows is built around your body.
What happens in the hour
Sixty minutes, one to one with Teejay. Nothing is prescribed before this.
01
Your history

What has happened to your back, neck or joints before, what is going on now, and what you are trying to get back to.

02
Postural analysis

How you hold yourself, standing and moving, and what that is costing you.

03
Musculoskeletal assessment

How you move today, and what can safely be asked of you next.

04
Your plan

Which exercises suit your situation and which to avoid, and a recommendation for your next step. For most clients, that is the Foundation Programme.

The assessment is a conversation as much as a movement screen — history first, then how you actually move.

Common questions

Questions about pricing
& membership

  • Yes — beginners often make the fastest progress because they haven't developed compensatory movement habits. The £85 Movement Assessment is designed to introduce complete beginners to the apparatus and establish a safe, appropriate starting point. No prior Pilates experience is needed at any stage. If you are searching for beginners Pilates or beginners Reformer Pilates in St Albans, the assessment followed by the Foundation Programme is the recommended starting path. Enquire here →
  • Yes — every new client starting Pilates begins with the £85 Movement Assessment. Teejay needs to understand how your body moves before he can safely and effectively prescribe exercises. Clients who have already tried physio, chiro, osteo and the gym often have compensatory movement patterns that generic exercise will make worse. The assessment prevents that. Standalone Osteolates Therapy and deep oscillation sessions are the exception — those are hands-on treatment rather than prescribed exercise, and can be booked without an assessment.
  • The Foundation Programme is the recommended step after your assessment. It costs £269 and includes three 60-minute 1-to-1 sessions with Teejay to learn spring control, transitions and alignment on the apparatus, followed by four small group sessions. It finishes with a progress review and a written recommendation for your membership. At single-session and pay-as-you-go rates the same sessions would cost £413. The programme is valid for 6 weeks from purchase.
  • No. All clients complete the assessment and the Foundation Programme, or a 1-to-1 course, before joining group sessions. By the time you join a group, Teejay already knows your movement patterns, your history and your programme. You are never put into a class cold.
  • At The Sogunro Practice in London Colney, a Movement Assessment costs £85, the Foundation Programme £269, small group sessions £32 pay as you go, and monthly membership from £129. Every session uses the full STOTT apparatus — Reformer, Cadillac, Stability Chair and Barrels — with a maximum of 7 clients and a programme built specifically around your Movement Assessment. You are not paying for a class — you are paying for a rehabilitation-informed programme designed for your body, your history and your goals.
  • Join a monthly membership within 7 days of completing your Foundation Programme or first 1-to-1 course and you receive a complimentary Osteolates session: an Osteolates Express (normally £65) with Essential membership, or an Osteolates Full Session (normally £110) with Premium membership. The bonus is a one-off on your first membership only.
  • The group block costs £299 for 10 small group sessions, about £30 per session, and is valid for 14 weeks from purchase. It suits clients whose schedule cannot take a fixed weekly slot. For regular weekly practice, Essential membership is better value at about £26 per session.
  • Yes. Both memberships are monthly rolling — no minimum term beyond the first month. You can pause for up to 4 weeks a year, for example during a flare-up or a holiday. To pause or cancel, email info@thesogunropractice.co.uk; cancellation needs 30 days written notice. Unused sessions within a paid month are not refunded or carried over.
  • Session packages have validity periods: 6 weeks for the Foundation Programme, 16 weeks for the 6-session 1-to-1 course, and 14 weeks for the 10-session group block. Unused sessions after the validity period expires are forfeited. For monthly memberships, unused sessions do not roll over.
  • Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice are charged in full. This applies to both 1-to-1 and group sessions. Please give as much notice as possible so your space can be offered to another client.
  • Sports Massage focuses on muscle tension, sports injury recovery and performance maintenance — best suited to athletes and active clients. Remedial Massage Therapy targets chronic muscle tension, postural problems and injury rehabilitation. Both are 45 minutes and priced at £85. Both can be booked as standalone appointments or combined with Applied Pilates or Osteolates Therapy sessions.
  • No. Osteolates Therapy is a system Teejay developed himself, combining hands-on soft tissue treatment with targeted rehabilitation movement. It is not physiotherapy or osteopathy.
  • For new clients, the Foundation Programme at £269 is the best-value start: three 1-to-1 sessions and four small group sessions, worth £413 at standard rates. For ongoing practice, Premium Membership at £219/month gives the best value at about £22 per session — a saving of over £100 per month versus pay as you go.
